Turntable DUAL 1218
DUAL 1218 turntable, manufactured in the 1970s. Great sound and unique design of bygone years. Fully functional.
Dual 1218 - with a traditional idler drive, produced in the early 70s. The turntable has the original plinth (casing) in the Gylling (Sweden) version and is a great combination of the best sound reproduction with the design of the 70s. All functions work properly. The turntable can be equipped with a record changer pin, the so-called spindle - it allows you to automatically listen to several discs (max. 6), one after the other (the spindle is not included in the set).
On request, we can prepare a turntable for use in the USA (replacement of the motor pulley and change of electrical connections, and adaptation of the motor to an electrical voltage of 110 - 125 V, 60 Hz).
The turntable has undergone a complete reviev and renovation - the old grease has been removed, the entire mechanism has been washed and re-greased. All its elements have been checked and subjected to appropriate service and calibration. The engine has undergone a comprehensive technical inspection and lubrication - it maintains its rotation properly. The grease in the arm lift has been replaced with a new one, the lift works with proper resistance. Replaced with a new capacitor in the power path.
The turntable is in good working order, all functions work properly. Dual 1218 - is fully automatic: it allows you to start with one lever, after the end of playback, the arm automatically returns to the starting position. Start can also be initiated manually. Allows you to listen to vinyl records at three speeds: 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm. The latter speed allows you to listen to older shellac records (with the use of the appropriate cartridge). An additional switch allows you to choose the diameter of the discs played: 17, 25 and 30 cm (6.69", 9.84" and 11.81"). In addition, the turntable is equipped with "Anti-Skating" and "Pitch-Control" adjustments (precise adjustment of the rotation of the turntable platter).
The whole thing works properly and offers a balanced, clear sound. Original, used SHURE M75 cartridge (Type D) is fitted. The needle is original, in very good condition. The headshell accepts all cartridges with a 1/2 inch mount, weighing from 1 to 12 g (0.002 to 0.026 lb) - including fasteners. Data about the cartridge and the needle are provided on the basis of electrical and microscopic measurements.
After using the appropriate element (the so-called spindle), it is possible to automatically listen to up to 6 discs - one after the other. The spindle is not included with the turntable.
The turntable casing shows slight traces of use, minor scratches and scuffs. The cover is free of cracks and defects, has small scratches and abrasions - it has not been polished.
Upgrades:
– the arm wiring was replaced with a copper wire ("litz wire") in a cotton braid, 7 x 0.07 mm (7 x 0.002 "),
– new audio cables were used; interconnect - made on a low-capacity DK4 cable from Schulz-Kabel (Germany). Signal and ground wires were routed separately for each channel. The mass of the tonearm and turntable is also run separately - the cable shield. New RCA "Amphenol" plugs have been installed.
